This week we enjoyed Little Cloud by Eric Carle. I love this unit! First, Eric Carle is simply amazing. Second, we get to cloud watch!
I start by telling a childhood memory of mine. I was lucky to have grandparents who lived on a farm. My grandfather had a huge garden where he grew many different kinds of fruits and vegetables. During the summer I remember going to the garden with him and helping him. I would also lay and look at the clouds and watch them change into anything I could imagine. That is why I love Little Cloud. It brings back a wonderful time in my youth.
So after we read the book, we talk about how to cloud watch. We model it in the room.
Then for the fun part. We go outside and cloud watch. The weather wasn't ideal for cloud watching, so we had to stretch our imaginations.
We made our clouds by using a mixture of shaving cream and glue. Then we wrote about what our cloud changed into. The whole class did such a great job. We displayed it at Open House.
