Life Cycle of the Chicken

This week in science we learned about the life cycle of the chicken. We read some really cool books and learned some new vocabulary. It takes about 21 days for the egg to hatch. We learned when the chick is ready to hatch they chip the shell with their egg tooth. Baby chicks are called pullets. We watched a video of a chick hatching. Then we followed up by making an anchor chart of the cycle. We got to use glue and paint so it was the funniest project ever.

As an added bonus my very sweet Uncle Bill brought his baby Rhode Island Red and Americana chicks. They were only one week old. We all got a chance to hold them. One even escaped and ran around the room! It was very exciting!

Thank you Uncle Bill for visiting the class!
